Thermal Separation Process Technology for the Chemical and Oleochemical Industry

The high availability of low pressure steam -also due to coupled processes- as well as the rigid and easy design of thermal separation processes hampered the spread of mechanical vapour recompression systems.

Traditional processes for the concentration of aqueous solutions and solvents are on trial. One is bound to re-evaluate the good old steam heated multi-effect plant compared to new concepts.

Despite higher capex costs plants with mechanical vapour recompression are coming to the fore. Often those concepts are realized as pre-concentrators with MVR and high-concentrators heated by steam or abundant heat.

The results of the evaluation speak for themselves: In most cases a ROI below 2-3 years can be achieved due to lower operational costs. The usage of steam and cooling water is only a fraction of the formerly utilized processes. This is contributing to the climate protection of our planet!
